About me.

Nice to meet you! My name is Mathilde Nai and I am a fine-art portrait and editorial photographer based in Amsterdam. I graduated the Piet Zwart Institute: Lens-Based Media Masters of Fine Arts program in Rotterdam in 2023 and have a bachelor in Industrial Design Engineering.

I’ve been featured in Vogue twice and was the sole photographer of the Duvel is Oud exposition in de Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam. I also shot a large portion of the portraits for a social project for Huis Ten Bosch, initiative of Queen Maxima and the photos for the Vietnamese cookbook “An Com” by Phi-Yen Phan (release May 2024).

You can approach me for editorial work, events, weddings and portraits!

My work

I would describe my work as high-energy cinematic stills with a daydreamy, whimsical, magical realism quality to them. I love playing with the imperfect spontaneity of movement in my photographs, creating snapshots of a moment in time.

My biggest inspirations are magical slice-of-life anime such as Kiki’s Delivery Service, Totoro and Your Name to name a few and Christopher Doyle’s dramatic and moody aesthetic in the Wong Kar Wai movies such as In the Mood for love and Fallen Angels.

  • As of right now my pricing is tailored to your unique needs and requests, but I will add pricing packages for weddings, engagements shoots and corporate portraiture soon! Don’t hesitate to contact me for more information.

  • Yes! While I am based in Amsterdam, I have worked for clients internationally. If you have an enquiry outside of the Netherlands, I am more than happy to discuss working with you!

  • For my clients’ convenience I have a portable studio that I can take and set up on location. Which means that I can travel to your office to take your portraits instead of everyone having to travel for me!
